Dew Drops and Leaves
This image has been captured with a Nikon D700 and the Nikon, Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF ED VR AF-S Micro Lens, a very good lens for close up images.
Flowers with a Long Lens
This flower image has been captured with the Nikon, Nikkor, 300mm f/4D IF ED AF-S Lens.
With this lens I believe I have acheived a nice out of focus bokeh. A long lens such as the 300mm will really throw the area behind the flower out of focus, to place more emphasis in the main subject matter.
The New Nikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S Lens
Nikon have today released a new Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G AF-S Lens which appears to be selling for a bargain at around $200.
I really like the aspect of a 50mm lens as it is a similar viewing angle to the human eye. The above image was not from the new lens but it offers a similar viewing angle. Also this type of lens comes in a very small package and is very convenient for travelling.
A Beautiful Leaf

Sometimes something as plain as a leaf can make a nice subject for your images.
This plain old leaf has been captured with a Nikon D700 camera and Nikon, Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED AF-S VR Micro Lens.
The 105mm Micro lens is excellent for flower photography as it gives you sufficient working distance from the subject to get sufficient lighting on the subject.
Banksia
A banksia flower photographed with a Nikon D2H camera. For flowers like this a macro lens is very useful, there is a good summary of Nikon macro (Micro) lenses in these Nikon Lens Reviews.
Flowers With Selective Focus
Selective focus is a great way to emphasise your subject.
By using a small aperture you can blur out the background and even blur out part of the subject to get the effect you want. Selective focus is relatively easy to achieve with longer lenses. In the image above I have used a Nikkor 200mm f/4D IF ED AF Micro Lens to concentrate on part of the flower.
A Beautiful Flower
This image has been captured just after some rain with water droplets on the petals. A Nikon D700 camera has been used with a 105mm Micro close up lens.
A close up lens such as this is great for subjects such as flowers.
